Criminal Record Sealing

Criminal records can result in a denial of housing, loans, and employment, long after a person has “served their time.” MassMutual volunteers work with the Western New England Center for Social Justice to address the on-going need for criminal records expungement and sealing.

Criminal Record (CORI) Sealing and Expungement Initiative

Unfortunately, a CORI is often a significant barrier to upward mobility for members of our community because it can result in a denial of housing, loans, and employment. In Massachusetts a CORI includes any crime with which a person has been charged, even non-convictions. Persons who are convicted carry a CORI around with them even after having “served their time.”

MassMutual volunteers work with the Western New England Center for Social Justice to address the on-going need for CORI expungement and sealing. Both attorney and non-attorney volunteers provide assistance, including helping clients obtain a copy of their CORI reports, one-on-one consultation with attorneys, preparation of and help filing Petitions to Seal and/or Expunge, and brief legal advice.
